Top Questions to Ask Before Hiring an Epoxy Installer

Most epoxy floors that fail don’t fail because of the product. They fail because of the installer.
That’s the part homeowners miss. The coating isn’t what makes the floor last. The prep does.
And whether or not that happens comes down to who you hire.
So if you’re about to hire an epoxy installer, here are the questions you should actually ask:
1. How do you prep the concrete?
If they say “we just clean it” or “a quick acid wash,” run. Real prep means grinding the surface or shot blasting it. That’s what lets the epoxy bond.
2. What kind of epoxy do you use?
Not all epoxy is the same. Ask if it’s 100% solids (that’s good). Ask if they use polyurea or polyaspartic topcoats for added durability. If they avoid the question, that’s your answer.
3. How thick is the coating?
More layers = more strength. Some budget jobs look fine at first but are paper-thin. You want at least a two- or three-coat system.
4. What’s included in your quote?
Are repairs extra? Do they charge for flake coverage or topcoats? Is there a warranty? You don’t want surprises after the job starts.
5. Can I see past work or reviews?
Any good installer should have photos, testimonials, or referrals. If they’ve done great work, they’ll be proud to show it.
Hiring an epoxy installer isn’t about finding the cheapest option. It’s about finding someone who won’t have to redo it later.
